OPP Golden Helmets Come to Minden!!

On Saturday July 4, 2009, at 2:00pm, the OPP Golden Helmets Precision Motorcycle Team will be coming to the Village of Minden. 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the Ontario Provincial Police and also the Sesquicentennial (150th) year of the Village of Minden. This precision motorcycle team was formed in 1963 and travels throughout the Province of Ontario giving exhibitions of superb riding skills at fairs, festivals and parades. The twenty-member team is comprised of OPP officers on regular duties who ride Harley Davidson Police Special motorcycles. During the 30-minute performance, the riders take their machines through a series of complex patterns which are intended to demonstrate the manoeuvrability of the machines and the skill of the riders. This is a free family event. Sections of the Bobcaygeon Rd will be closed to accommodate the event. For more information on the golden helmets please visit the OPP website. Why not take in this event when staying in one of our cottages.

Downhill and Cross Country cyclist paradise!

The Sir Sam’s Ski Area has just launched a summer program of biking, hiking and lift rides.  I was lucky enough to get to go for a familiarization tour yesterday and was amazed by the scenery — as you can see from the photos. Some of the group cycled up the hill on the newly created paths that criss-cross the hill and lead you to the top. However, others simply had their bikes loaded onto the lift and taken to the top for them so they could ride through the meadow area at the top or descend the hill by bike. The younger set amongst us had a great time doing tricks off the bike park ramps at the top (as seen in the accompanying photo. For those who are not inclined to cycle there are trails to walk at the top of the hill or you can walk up or down if you are so inclined (get the pun) as well. Whatever you choose to do this is a great new addition to the list of activities available in the Haliburton region. Come on up and check it out and stay in one of our well located cottages while you are at it.
